This is a great video I saw showcased at NCTM2011. The presenter, Eric Milou, gave some examples for using this video as a teaching opportunity. Show the video as an activating strategy, have students identify math terms, they can circle words on the list they know, work in teams to explore unknown concepts. Finally, the students may want to create a math video of their own.
Virtual Nerd is a new web site where teachers (for free) and students (for a price) can access hundreds of step-by-step tutorials using a “Dynamic Whiteboard.” While watching the videos, students can ask questions and drill down for more help. Current topics include Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Into to Physics. Aligned to Common Core.
Artsonia Art teachers can post student art work online at this free website. Teachers can build a gallery of their students’ art projects. The website lets
family and friends log on to see the children’s art. Friends and relatives can
comment on students’ work, which is posted with their first name and an ID
number.
